Volunteer Opportunities


CMoR’s volunteer program offers a series of progressive opportunities for ages 11 with a parent, and 12 and up independently!


Individual Volunteer Opportunities:


Museum Shop Assistant


Assist guests making purchases, organize merchandise. Play with toys in the shop, show guests how they work. Must be able to use a cash register. Must be at least 16 years old.


Art Studio Assistant


Assist the Art Studio Coordinator in daily duties. Organize craft supplies, create displays, and maintain a clean and safe working space in the Art Studio. Must be at least 14 years old.


Birthday Buddy (Saturdays&Sundays Only)


Help make a child’s birthday extra special! Birthday Buddies help run parties by playing games with the party guests, also help with party room set up and take down. Must be at least 14 years old.


Group Visit Buddy


Help school children visiting the museum in large groups get the most out of their field trip experience! Volunteers will be paired with a small group of children, providing assistance with hand on activities and supervision in exhibits area. Must be at least 16 years old.


Play Facilitator


Interact with guests in the exhibit space. Show children how the exhibits work and give ideas for play. Responsible for helping keep the exhibit spaces organized and safe. Supervise children playing and pick up throughout the day. Must be at least 14 years old.


Story Time Reader (Weekdays Only)


Make a visit to the museum extra special by running story time! Volunteers get to read a children’s book to a group of eager museum guests. Must be at least 14 years old.


Special Events (Various Fridays and Saturdays year round)


Help run special events such as the Gingerbread Festival, Halloween Hoopla, Carniball, and many other. Volunteers at special events greet guests, blow up and give out balloons, face paint, help with moonbounces, and so much more!


Legendary Santa (Nov 27th – Dec. 24th)


Volunteers help keep guests entertained while they wait in line to see Santa, and help run the Tea with Santa program.


Museum Mascot Volunteers


Engage the affections and imaginations of children by performing the role of CMoR’s mascot, Seymour the Dinosaur! Perform at scheduled appearances at CMoR, greet and entertain guests, and pose with children for pictures.


Volunteer must be able to commit to at least 2 shifts per month. Each shift is about 4 hours long.

Youth Volunteer Opportunities:



Youth ages 12-13 have special opportunities available for volunteering at CMoR.

  • Special Events
  • Special Afternoon shifts from 3:30pm – 5:30pm where they can help with special projects and around the museum.
  • They may volunteer during any regular shift and any regular opportunity when they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.


Group Volunteer Opportunities:


A variety of group opportunities are available throughout the year for service teams of various sizes.

  • Opportunities are based on group availability.
  • Opportunities will be coordinated through team leaders.
  • Team leaders must attend a general orientation at the museum OR a special off-site session can be scheduled for the entire group!
  • Opportunities: Special Events, Maintenance&cleaning, Landscaping projects, Event preparation, School Group chaperones, Special group-appropriate projects
  • CMoR works with corporate teams, congregations, fraternities&sororities, scout troops, high school key clubs, national honor societies, and any group looking for service opportunities that serve
    our community’s children!


Internship Opportunities


Our internship opportunities offer college students&recent college graduates a chance to utilize their skills, make a valuable contribution to a dynamic non-profit organization, and experience a program that is enriching, challenging, exciting, and rewarding.

  • A variety of competitive internship opportunities are available for university students&recent college graduates.
  • Most positions are available throughout the year (spring, summer, and fall semesters).

Family Volunteer Opportunities:


Show your kids the value of giving back by volunteering as a family with the Children’s Museum! When families volunteer together, parents have an important opportunity to serve as role models and plant seeds that can grow into a lifelong commitment to community service.

  • Children under the age of 12 are not permitted to volunteer without adult supervision.
  • Children between the ages of 11-12 must be accompanied by adults in a one-to-four ratio
  • Family units may include one or more adults (parents, grandparents, or other extended family members) and one or more children from a single extended family household.
  • Families that commit to the volunteer program as a family unit must volunteer as a family unit.
  • The designated parent/head of household must assume responsibility for supervision of other family unit members.
  • All volunteering family members must attend a general orientation.
  • Please note that this is a volunteer opportunity with expectations, and not a free play opportunity.
